Product Introduction of Latex Foley Catheter
Our Silicone-Coated Latex Foley Catheters are a medical staple, expertly designed for reliable and comfortable long-term urinary drainage. Engineered from high-quality natural latex and finished with a smooth silicone coating, these indwelling catheters minimize urethral irritation and ensure easy insertion.
Available in both 2-way and 3-way configurations to suit various clinical needs, from simple bladder drainage to post-operative irrigation. Each catheter is individually packaged and sterilized with Ethylene Oxide (EO) gas to guarantee sterility and patient safety.
Key Features & Clinical Benefits
- Biocompatible Silicone Coating: The smooth silicone layer over the latex shaft reduces friction and the risk of encrustation, ensuring atraumatic insertion and enhanced patient comfort during indwelling use.
- Symmetrical, High-Pressure Balloon: The balloon inflates symmetrically for secure and reliable anchoring within the bladder, preventing accidental displacement. Strong, kink-resistant material ensures consistent performance.
- Atraumatic Soft Tip: Features a soft, rounded, and smooth tip that facilitates gentle passage through the urethra, minimizing trauma and discomfort for the patient.
- Versatile 2-Way and 3-Way Designs:
- 2-Way Foley Catheter: The standard design with two channels for urine drainage and balloon inflation.
- 3-Way Foley Catheter: Includes a third irrigation channel, making it ideal for continuous bladder irrigation and instillation of medications.
- Clear Sizing & Identification: Color-coded valves allow for quick and easy identification of catheter sizes (Fr), streamlining the selection process for clinicians.
- Guaranteed Sterility: Each urinary catheter is supplied in a sterile, individual peel-pouch, ready for aseptic use in hospitals and clinics.

Product Comparison: Silicone-Coated Latex vs. 100% Silicone Foley Catheters
Choosing the right Foley catheter is a critical clinical decision. This guide compares our silicone-coated latex catheter with a 100% pure silicone alternative to help you select the most appropriate option.
| Feature | Silicone-Coated Latex Foley Catheter (This Product) | 100% Pure Silicone Foley Catheter |
|---|---|---|
| Material Composition | Natural latex core with a smooth, inert silicone coating on all surfaces. | Made entirely of medical-grade silicone. Contains no latex. |
| Allergy Risk | Contraindicated for patients with a known latex allergy. | Ideal choice for patients with latex allergies or sensitivity. Completely latex-free. |
| Duration of Use | Best for short-term catheterization (up to 14 days, per hospital protocol). | The gold standard for long-term indwelling use (up to 30 days or more, per protocol). |
| Stiffness & Flexibility | Generally softer and more flexible, which can enhance patient comfort. | Slightly firmer, which can aid in easier insertion for certain patient anatomies. |
| Drainage Lumen Size | Standard drainage lumen. | Features a wider drainage lumen for the same French (Fr) size due to thinner, stronger walls, improving drainage efficiency. |
| Cost | More cost-effective. An economical choice for routine, short-term applications. | Higher initial cost. The premium option for allergy cases and long-term care needs. |
Which Foley Catheter Should You Choose?

Clinical Procedure Guide: How to Use a Latex Foley Catheter
Disclaimer: This guide is for informational purposes for trained healthcare professionals. It is not a substitute for formal medical training, clinical judgment, or institutional protocols. Always follow aseptic technique.
Step 1: Preparation and Patient Consent
- Verify Order & Gather Equipment: Confirm the medical order and assemble a sterile catheterization tray, the correct size Latex Foley Catheter, sterile gloves, sterile water syringe for balloon, lubricant, and a drainage system.
- Explain Procedure & Position Patient: Inform the patient to gain consent. Position females in a dorsal recumbent position and males in a supine position.
- Perform Hand Hygiene.
Step 2: Aseptic Catheter Insertion
- Open Sterile Kit & Don Gloves: Establish a sterile field and put on sterile gloves.
- Prepare Supplies: Organize the sterile field, apply antiseptic to swabs, and apply sterile lubricant to the first 2-4 cm of the catheter tip.
- Cleanse the Meatus: Using your non-dominant hand to expose the meatus, use your dominant hand to clean the area with antiseptic solution according to standard protocol.
- Insert the Catheter: Gently insert the lubricated catheter tip into the meatus. Advance steadily until you see a return of urine, then advance another 2-3 cm to ensure the balloon is fully inside the bladder.
Step 3: Securing the Catheter
- Inflate the Balloon: While holding the catheter, slowly inflate the balloon with the specified amount of sterile water. Do not use saline.
- Confirm Placement: Gently pull the catheter until you feel resistance, confirming the balloon is anchored.
- Connect and Secure: Connect the catheter to the drainage bag. Secure the tubing to the patient’s thigh or abdomen to prevent pulling and urethral trauma.
- Position Bag & Document: Hang the drainage bag below the bladder level. Document the procedure, catheter size, and patient response in the medical record.
